How the SEO ROI Is Calculated
New customers = extra leads per month × your lead to customer rate.
Revenue = new customers × the value of a customer.
Profit = revenue × your profit margin (leave it at 100% and the return is on revenue).
Return = (profit − what you pay for SEO) ÷ what you pay for SEO.
Break-even leads = what you pay ÷ (lead to customer rate × customer value × profit margin). That is the number to judge an SEO proposal against: if it looks out of reach for your market, the plan is too big or SEO is not the right channel yet.
What the calculator can't tell you
How many extra leads SEO will bring depends on your market, your competitors and where your site starts. Rankings take months to build, so early months return less than later ones. For a real estimate, I look at your site and your search demand before quoting.
